Careers at The Loughborough – FAQs
Whether you’re exploring career opportunities with The Loughborough for the first time or are ready to apply, we’ve put together answers to some frequently asked questions to help provide you with the information you need to take the next step.
What is the recruitment process?
Once you’ve applied for a position, your application will be processed by our HR team. You will receive correspondence usually within two weeks of the closing date to advise whether you have been shortlisted for interview.
If successfully shortlisted, you will be invited for an interview. The interview process will give you an opportunity to meet with the hiring manager of the position and find out more about the role and the wider business.
Interview panels consist of at least two members and interviews are usually competency-based. Depending on the seniority of the role, the interview process may include more than one stage.
How long does the recruitment process usually take?
What should I wear to the interview?
Where will I be working?
It depends on the position you’ve applied for. For retail roles, you could be working in one of our 4 branches across the East Midlands. For most of the other roles at The Loughborough, they come with flexibility. The Society’s hybrid working policy expects that at least 60% of your contractual hours should be worked at an office workspace, although you can choose to work more than that if you wish. Up to 40% of your contractual hours can be worked from home.
What are the pre-employment checks?
As we are a financial services business, we will run a credit check on all candidates who have been verbally offered a role at The Loughborough. We will also request at least 6 years of references, if available. Final offer is subject to the satisfactory outcome for these checks.
Furthermore, ‘right to work’ documents are a legal requirement that we need to have on file should you be offered a role. We will request copies of documentation from you after an offer has been made and then verified copies will be taken of your original documents on your first day.
What if I have a criminal record?
At The Loughborough, we believe in providing equal employment opportunities to all qualified candidates. Having a criminal record does not automatically disqualify you from employment with us. We consider each application on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the nature of the offense, the time that has passed, and its relevance to the position you are applying for.
I have a disability, can you accommodate my needs during the recruitment process?
At The Loughborough, we are committed to ensuring an inclusive and accessible recruitment process for all candidates. If you have a disability and require accommodations during the recruitment process, please let us know. We will work with you to provide the necessary support to ensure that you have a fair opportunity to showcase your skills and qualifications.

What does the onboarding process look like for new joiners?

You’ll receive on-the-job training specific to your role and have access to resources and mentors to help you get up to speed. My application was unsuccessful, can I reapply?

We value every applicant and understand that there are many factors involved in the hiring process. You are welcome to apply for other positions with us as they become available.
